After much deliberation and brainstorming around the theme for the Github Gameoff gamejam, the team is finally ready to start working on developing its first prototype!

The team

Our team is composed of a total of six members scattered across Canada and the USA. We're mostly developers and programmers and we are very enthusiastic about game development. Some of us also have hidden artistic talents that we will discover as we work on the game. Since we work remotely, we communicate with Discord in our server. We're also active in the discord server of the Github Gameoff, come say hi!

Ideas

There were many great ideas that came out of our brainstorming session. This year the theme was "Hybrid.” Here are some of our ideas that we didn't pick but had great fun thinking about:

Flower dating sim

Bullet hell rhythm game

The idea is to combine a Touhou style game with rhythmic music patterns.

"My little alchemist can't be this cute."

A game where you combine ingredients to create potions. You would be able to sell your potions and use the money to buy more ingredients and unlock new recipes to create more potions and earn even more money.

Travelling Merchant Bullet Hell

A travelling merchant game where you travel from city to city to buy and sell goods à la Spice and Wolf. However, as you travel between cities, a bullet hell style game takes place.

The winning idea: Chimeras

A chess-like board game with a twist where you combine pieces in various ways to create new, hybrid pieces with combined traits in an effort to defeat your opponents (more details in the next post!).

What's next

We already started working on the code and it's readily available on Github here .
Of course at the time of writing this, the game is in a very early stage. We hope to have a working prototype by the end of the jam. The latest build from our continuous delivery pipeline can be downloaded over itch here . Give it a try and tell us what you think!
